The Coalition of Ijaw Youth (CJY) in the Niger Delta has called on Nigerians to support the ongoing digital transformation of the Federal Civil Service, urging the public not to allow recent developments surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) to distract attention from what it described as a landmark public sector reform initiative.

In a statement on Tuesday by its National President, Comrade Bedford Berefa Benjamin, the coalition commended the reform programme being driven by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, describing it as a critical step toward building a transparent, efficient and accountable public service.

According to the group, the introduction of key digital platforms, including the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) System, GovMail and the 1-GOV Cloud Platform, has accelerated Nigeria’s transition to a paperless Civil Service while improving service delivery, strengthening accountability and reducing bureaucratic delays across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The coalition noted that the digitalisation efforts were transforming public administration by ensuring official records are securely preserved, approvals are traceable and institutional accountability is enhanced.

“The transformation being championed by the Head of the Civil Service is redefining public administration by ensuring official records are digitally preserved, approvals are traceable and accountability is strengthened,” the statement said.

CJY stated that the reforms had replaced cumbersome manual processes with secure digital systems that improve document management, preserve institutional memory, promote transparency and support faster decision-making within government institutions.

The group further observed that expanding digital governance across the public sector would help reduce administrative errors, strengthen internal controls, improve audit trails and ensure greater compliance with Public Service Rules.

It argued that recent developments in the public space should serve as an impetus for accelerating institutional reforms rather than weakening public confidence in them, stressing that technology-driven systems provide stronger safeguards against procedural lapses commonly associated with manual administration.

The coalition also praised ongoing efforts aimed at promoting merit-based career progression, enhancing capacity development, improving payroll integrity and strengthening knowledge management within the Civil Service.

According to the group, such initiatives are essential to building a modern, responsive and citizen-focused public service capable of meeting the demands of contemporary governance.

CJY maintained that institutional reform is a continuous process that should not be undermined by premature conclusions before relevant administrative procedures are concluded.

“The ongoing digital transformation of the Federal Civil Service is one of the most ambitious governance reforms in Nigeria today. It deserves sustained support, consolidation and full implementation across government,” the statement added.

The coalition called on the Federal Government to accelerate the nationwide implementation of digital governance initiatives, arguing that a fully integrated and paperless public service would enhance transparency, improve efficiency, strengthen accountability and restore public confidence in government institutions.

It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reforms that promote institutional excellence, technology-driven governance and a Federal Civil Service capable of delivering efficient, transparent and citizen-centred services across the country.
