The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the relocation of flight operations from the old terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos to the new one (terminal two).

FAAN announced the relocation in a press statement on Thursday with the agency also calling on travellers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their departure.

The agency explained that arriving at the airport very early would also allow the check-in process to be done in time.

“This is to inform the travelling public that flight operations have been moved from the Old Murtala Muhammed International Airport terminal (TI) to the new terminal (T2),” FAAN said.

“FAAN uses this medium to appeal to passengers to always get to the airport ‘at least three hours’ before their departure time to ensure that check-in activities are concluded in good time.”

The announcement comes one week after the minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, gave a directive to all airlines to vacate the old terminal from October 1, 2023.

Keyamo, on a tour of the airport on August 1, ordered the immediate relocation of all foreign airlines to the new but deserted Chinese terminal at the MMIA in Lagos.

The aviation minister further said that the mandatory evacuation is to pave way for the shutdown and renovation of the old MMIA terminal.

“We must use what we have for now. I have given both international and local airlines till October 1, 2023, to move from the old terminal to the new one,” he said.

“We are going to shut down the old terminal temporarily and sort out all the issues surrounding the old terminal such as concession agreements and so on.”
