The police in Lagos State have discovered a gun and 11 rounds of live ammunition in a biscuit carton in Apa Town, Badagry, Lagos State. The suspects were in an uncompleted building where they were allegedly planning an operation.
Speaking with The Guardian, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Command’s attention was drawn to the incident and officers were quickly mobilised to the scene but the suspects fled on sighting the police.
He said while owners of uncompleted buildings are not liable for hoodlums hibernating in their property, residents should always report activities of criminals around them.
“There are those who fenced such buildings, but the hoodlums still jump fences to gain entrance. While they are not at fault, it’s advisable that building owners do not leave it uncompleted for too long.
“The police are on the trail of the hoodlums; we will fish them out and they will be prosecuted. We have since expanded our capacity as we are now working with other stakeholders to bring a total stop to this menace.
“These miscreants are strongly warned to desist from such nefarious activities, as failure to heed this warning would lead to their arrest and prompt prosecution,” Hundeyin warned.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, has assured Lagosians that the Command would continue to do everything possible to ensure that crime and criminality is reduced to the barest minimum in the state.”
