Lagos declares zero tolerance for building collapse

The new Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos State, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has said transparency in the built sector and zero tolerance for building collapse would be a central focus of the administration.

Pledges housing delivery

The new Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos State, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has said transparency in the built sector and zero tolerance for building collapse would be a central focus of the administration.Olumide said this while resuming office amidst high expectations from stakeholders in the building industry.

The commissioner, who was welcomed at the Ministry alongside the Special Adviser, e-GIS and Urban Planning, Dr Olajide Babatunde, promised to build on successes and introduce progressive actions to revolutionise the sector while working effectively with all stakeholders.

The Special Adviser, e-GIS and Urban Planning, Dr Olajide Babatunde, who returned to the post, also called for continued cooperation and teamwork.
The duo were received by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluwole Sotire; Surveyor-General, Lagos State, Ayokunu Adeshina; general managers of agencies in the ministry and senior management staff.

MEANWHILE, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Housing in the state, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has pledged to increase housing delivery to the people of Lagos State. He made the promise during a reception organised by the Ministry of Housing for him and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Mrs. Barakat Bakare.

Akinderu-Fatai expressed gratitude to God for another opportunity to serve the people of the state and appreciated the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing him as “a great leader with an unparalleled passion for improving the lots of the people.”

He said: “The governor is an exemplary leader and in following him, we have come to understand the beauty of giving our all in serving the people,” he said.

He affirmed that in the spirit of the THEMES PLUS agenda, the Ministry of Housing will upscale its activities to increase the supply of homes to Lagosians through the completion of all ongoing projects in the five administrative divisions of the State.

“We will also firm up collaborations for the delivery of mass houses for workers of various categories,” he revealed.  Earlier the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Kamar Owodiran Olowoshago, assured the two political appointees of the loyalty and commitment of the workers towards actualising the housing mandate of the governor.
