Afro-gospel artist and Music Minister, Senge Olumuyiwa Samuel, popularly known as Merry1, recently released a new single titled ‘Winner’.
The Osun State born singer, said ‘Winner’ is a sound he believes offers motivation to his audience, and also expresses gratitude to God for his journey of growth as an individual.
His words: “My latest single release titled ‘Winner’ is a song of passion, hope and self-motivation. As the popular saying goes, winners never quit! We must always remember the reasons we started out our journeys in the first place. It is a fusion of some Afrobeat Party Vibes, with some elements of Amapiano. In the song, I took out time to attribute all my life and career successes to God. It was produced by Tegazbeatz.”
Having originally initiated the ‘Afro Super Sound’ genre of music, he kick-started his musical career in 2015 with the release of his debut track, ‘You Alone’. It was followed up in 2017 by the release of another single titled, ‘Omemma’ where he collaborated with award-winning producer, SMJ.
As a student on campus, Merry1 was a member of a music group known as Big Time Potentialz (BTP). He later left the group after his encounter with Christ and diverted the same talent and energy to the gospel. He has ever since been on fire for God. He officially changed his stage name to ‘Merry1’ in 2022 and followed up with the release of an Extended Playlist titled ‘Thank You’, containing five exciting tracks. Merry1 said his supporters should expect some high-profile collaborations and musical videos in the near future.
He cited Tim Godfrey and Moses Bliss as some of his top favourites in the Nigerian Gospel Music space, while stating that the industry has a lot of capacity to grow and expand.
“The growth in the gospel music industry over the years has been amazing. There are many upcoming talents, and I also appreciate the fact that we are beginning to engage culture and also explore sounds across various genres,” he added.
