One man said that people asked him: “What is the purpose of life?” And he responded by saying: “In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity.” One day your heart is going to stop and you will give account to God on how you lived your life here on earth. You may live 50 or 100 years on earth, but you are going to spend trillions of years in eternity. The purpose of God for mankind is that we live for His glory here on earth, so that; we can be with Him in eternity. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Life is short, death is certain and eternity is forever. It is how you prepare for eternity that will determine if you will meet Christ in fear or eternal joy.
If you want to go to hell, go on and live your life the way you want. The good news is that God does not desire that anyone should be lost in hell, rather, God desires for people is to live with Him forever in eternity (Mathew 25:41).
God is not looking for whom to send to hell. The greater years of our lives will be spent in eternity; so, wisdom demands that we pay attention to our eternal destination. You should live in this present world with eternity in view ((1 Peter 4:7). You should live in the now with readiness and preparedness for eternity. Every true child of God is a pilgrim and a stranger here on earth and so you should live here on earth without forgetting yourself in the world. Be sure you will end it well and say like Paul: “I have fought the good fight of faith.”
Ensure you are a real child of God in the open and in the secret. God will judge everyone whether you are a senator, bishop or an elder in the church for everyone will stand before God to give account of his/her stewardship. How to prepare for eternity is for you to be a real born again child of God. Being born again is recognising that you are a sinner and that you need God’s mercy, then you come in repentance by asking God to save you as you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour.
Another way to prepare for eternity is to live to please God in whatsoever you do. It is making Jesus the complete owner of your life (Mathew 3:17). In your readiness for eternity, you don’t live to please yourself, society or the devil; you live to please God. The way you are living now might be giving pleasure to somebody — is it God? Is it yourself? Or is it the Devil? I want to urge you to choose to live your life to serve God’s purpose.
Living for Christ is a beautiful thing and a wonderful experience everyone should desire to have. God wants you to consciously give your life to Him. In case you have backslidden from the faith, God wants you to rededicate your life to Him. Being a child of God is accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and submitting to Him daily so that you may walk in the streets of gold in heaven. Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people.
