Honour SGF, minister, nine lawmakers
Tiv Professionals Association has called on all elected and appointed officials of Benue State extraction in the President Bola Tinubu administration to close ranks and address the worrisome resurgence of insecurity in and around the state.
This came as the Abuja-based socio-cultural group, at the weekend, honoured the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Joseph Utsev and nine members of the 10th National Assembly.
The group also tasked the representatives of Tiv nation, especially those at the National Assembly, to network and rally round Tinubu to facilitate development and progress that has continued to elude the people.
President of the Association, Abraham Aku, made the call in Abuja, at a reception for appointed and elected sons and daughters of Tiv extraction at the national level.
Aku said the Tiv nation must wake up and galvanize resources towards quickly addressing the issues that conspired to hinder the people from developing the state.
He said: “No tribe is sleeping again, and if we were sleeping, it is now time to wake up! This is the period that Tiv must get it right. It will be suicidal for us to allow Tiv nation to continue the downward slide.
“One can hardly say where we are now, as we are hardly seen or heard on national issues. Tiv unity, now more than ever before, is paramount; hence, all of us need to, for the overall interest of Tiv people, close ranks for meaningful impact in every small area we find ourselves.”
Earlier, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Zaki Ukpi, explained that the occasion was designed to celebrate and honour distinguished Tiv sons and daughters elected to represent the people in the National Assembly alongside other leaders who had been elevated by the Tinubu administration to various positions in the country.
Also recognised during the ceremony under the Chairmanship of Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) were Dr Bitto Sewuese, Ms. Mimidoo Achakpa and Dr. Silvanus Ghasarah, who distinguished themselves in other fields of human endeavour.
