• Shettima flags off APC guber campaign in Owerri
• Urges electorate to vote Uzodimma for second term

As 17 governorship candidates prepare for the November 11 poll in Imo State, the state government has assured stakeholders of level playing ground in the exercise, advising them to embrace “peace, fairness and enduring growth” as embedded in the state’s Charter of Equity.

This was as the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, flagged off the campaign for the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Imo Orientation Agency, Dr. Fidel Onyeneke, stated this, yesterday, in a statement he issued in Owerri.

According to him, the document, which is about rotation of power on a zonal basis, would take care of “bickering, mudslinging and other violent activities” characterising indecent electoral processes.

According to Onyeneke, both residents and indigenes of the state will benefit greatly if they read the contents of the document.

He disclosed that public advocacy and engagement would be adopted to drive home the message at community level.

He urged the electorate to return Uzodimma, for second and final tenure in the coming election to enable him handover to an Owerri zone person in 2028, as spelt out in the document. s

MEANWHILE, at the flag off of Uzodimma’s campaign, which was held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Wetheral Road, Owerri, yesterday, Shettima urged Imo electorate to cast their votes for the governor, saying that he will not fail them in the provision of democratic dividends.

Others present at the event were governors of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Governor Mallam Umar Namadi of Jigawa; Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State; Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, among others.

Speaking, Uzodimma said: “I will not take your support for granted. I will improve on my performance. I will do better than I’ve done. I will not speak for myself, but for you. We give God the glory, and we thank the almighty God for making today possible.

“APC, as you know, is the party to beat in Imo State. APC, as you know, has come to cater and provide better guidance and direction for our people.”
