The police in Niger State have arrested one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu for allegedly stealing two female horses at Chekungi village in Bida Local Council of the state.
Aliyu, who hails from Zaria in Kaduna State was arrested last Tuesday, following a case of missing two horses reported at ‘A’ Division Bida.
Spokesperson for the command, Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement yesterday, explained that the two female horses were missing from the stable where about five horses were kept.
According to him, the complainant strongly suspected Aliyu, who had been visiting the farm for horse grooming and racing.
“The suspect was immediately arrested from the farm and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stressing that he had moved the two horses to a nearby bush from the farm, while he later hired a vehicle from the park to move the horses to Kaduna at a cost of N100,000.”
“Based on the suspect’s confession, the driver of the vehicle was contacted, and he also confessed that he dropped the horses at Mararaban-Jos road, while another vehicle was arranged to convey the horses back to Bida.
“The suspect is in custody, and will be charged to court, after the investigation is concluded,” Abiodun added.
