He said if the children must excel and be responsible future leaders, they must be taught now on how to get good leaders…’’
“If you want these children to be our future leaders, we must start now to teach and show them the right way. They should learn the difference between right and wrong and develop the ability to hold both leaders and people accountable for their actions. This is the right time for them to build that foundation of leadership,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Youth Service Chairman 2023-2024 Rotary year, Joy Chinwendu Uzoho stated that the aim of the event is to inculcate the habit of reading in children and to sensitizlse them on how to be more focused to become better leaders in the society.
She said the students must understand the benefit of having literacy day and its purpose in their lives and the society. On her part, the principal of Oregun Senior High School, Adegboye Olawunmi, commended the efforts of the club, while emphasising on the need for the students to read and use social media positively to better themselves.
She expressed concern about youths who allow social media to consume their attention, noting that she reminds her students everyday on the assembly ground, the important of reading.
“I encourage them to go online to read and to find difficult topics they can find solutions to, instead of going on social media for useless things. I told them the importance of social media is to improve their lives and they should find out what they don’t know to better their lives and not go to the bad sites,” she stressed.
