
.Promises to complete 1,000 houses to resettle communities
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the award of university scholarships to 37 casual workers in the Bama Local Council of the state.
The casual workers were identified while they were constructing the Internally-Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camp in Ngurosoye community of the Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education, Science and Technology (UNICEST), Bama.
Zulum, who announced the awards, yesterday, at Ngurosoye, while inspecting the ongoing construction of the IDP camp project, said: “Today’s interactions with the labourers on project site indicated that over 35 of them had obtained Senior Secondary School Examination Certificate (SSSCE) and they are qualified for university admission in the country.
Meanwhile, Zulum has approved the construction of 1,000 houses to resettle Daramajal and Mayanti border communities in the council.
According to him, the first phase of the housing units are to be completed in February 2024 to resettle over 12,500 Internally-Displaced Persons (IDP) returnees and refugees from Cameroun.
The governor, while unveiling the houses, yesterday, at the Banki junction, said: “After the completion of 500 houses in each of the two communities, their infrastructural facilities, including water and solar-powered electricity supplies, will be completed in four months.
“Other facilities to be provided in the communities include primary schools and a healthcare delivery centre.”
Also, the governor, who assessed structures destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents at the Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education, Science and Technology (UICEST), Bama, directed the Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Ibrahim Idriss, to assess the level of damages at the staff quarters and students’ hostels for reconstruction.
