The House is Representatives is considering a Bill aimed at establishing the Federal Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship in Bungudu, Zamfara state.
The Bill initiated by Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu Bungudu representing the Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency, Zamfara State has been presented to members of the lower legislative chamber for fine-tuning.
The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Federal Polytechnic (Establishment) Act to pave way for the establishment of the the Federal Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship in Bungudu, Zamfara State, with the primary goal of providing comprehensive education in sciences, skills, arts, and technical knowledge.
During the presentation of the bill, Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu Bungudu emphasized the importance of equipping Nigerian youths with the necessary knowledge and skills in technology and entrepreneurship.
He noted that the government alone cannot provide jobs for all the country’s youth, and the need to empower them to create job opportunities and foster economic growth is crucial.
Bungudu highlighted the economic situation in Zamfara State, where farming, the primary source of income for most households, has been severely impacted by banditry and insecurity.
He pointed out that over 80% of farms in the state remain uncultivated due to these challenges, leaving many households struggling to meet basic needs.
“if established, the institute would provide individuals with the necessary skills for technological innovations and entrepreneurship. This, in turn, would open avenues for local and international businesses, fostering economic diversification and addressing the pressing need for job creation and reduction of unemployment in the country,” he said.
Bungudu thereby canvassed the support of his colleagues in view of the fact that the initiative would create jobs, thereby mitigating unemployment and its associated consequences on his constituents in Zamfara state.
