Immediate past council chairmen in Ondo State, yesterday, lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state over allegation by the party that they have been receiving salaries despite leaving office two months ago.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference in Akure, the state capital, the former chairmen, whose tenure expired on August 30, vowed to drag the party to court over the allegation, which they described as false.

PDP had, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, accused the former council bosses of still drawing salaries from the state treasury and using official vehicles.

Peretei alleged that the impunity by the former chairmen was caused by the absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from the state.
But speaking through the immediate past Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Augustine Oloruntogbe, the former council chairmen, said: “The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has been spreading falsehoods against us, saying that we, the former chairmen, are still collecting salaries from our various local governments.

“We are here to deny the allegation vehemently and to tell the whole world that it is a lie from the pit of hell. Since we left the local government, we have never received a dime from our local government. Even when I was appointed as one of the panel members to chair the palliative, I had to send a representative since I’m no longer in the local government.

“We haven’t had any financial relationships with our local governments since we left. We left on August 30, 2023.”
