As more women venture into male-dominated fields, they have been charged to be resilient and consistent in their drive. This was the advocacy at the 22nd Women in Management, Business and Public Service’s (WIMBIZ) two-day conference, with the theme, ‘Mission I’m Possible: Thrive!’, yesterday in Lagos, with over 2,000 persons in attendance.

The Executive Director, Hansatu Adegbite, said the theme was hinged on inspiring women to thrive in their world despite challenges. Her words: “We cannot deny the fact that there have been a lot of challenges even to organisations, businesses, and women, in whatever profession they are in, and with this discouragement, we need to remind women that they carry a seed inside them that still needs to be activated for greatness.”

Chief Executive Officer of Landmark Africa Group, Paul Onwuanibe, in his keynote address, stressed the need for women to target success.
Moderating a panel session on navigating through rugged male-dominated industries, TV host, Rufai Oseni said: “I am an unrepentant feminist. It is a difficult thing to change culture, but I know that someday, norms will shift. With the economic wars in Nigeria, it is overdue for a female President, and I know someday, it will happen.”

Created mainly to inspire women to attain leadership positions in business, management or in public service, awards were conferred on female achievers in the aviation sector.

They include pioneer Nigerian female commercial pilot, Chinyere Kalu; inaugural licensed female air traffic controller, Hauwa Danboyi Musa and pioneer Nigerian female air hostess, the late Christiana Stallings.
