Popular media personality, video jockey, and actor Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, aka Do2dtun, has lamented the growing trend of Nigerian artists and event organizers charging in foreign currency to perform in Nigeria. He said despite the artists and their genre being homegrown, they now place their booking fees in the United States Dollar, including events in Nigeria.

The reality star described the new development as “quite strange and bizarre.”
Do2dtun called on Nigerian artists to reconsider their decision to charge in foreign currency, saying that it is not in the best interest of the Nigerian music industry.
In a post on his X account, Do2dtun said, “This Afrobeat we all built together, na Una go use Una hands spoil am. You now charge your own people in dollars. Forget to unlock the togetherness the genre gives you and your people. Quite strange and bizarre.”
He also touched on how there has been a general decline in the number of concerts, and live music shows held in Nigeria. He said, “You have no idea. Ask why there isn’t so many live shows this year? It started 2 years ago. Now it’s worse. corporates have canceled their end of the year parties, show promoters can’t pay except you launder money & not expect profit. You can never get your moneys worth.”
Then he urged hypemen and DJ’s to go over their rate cards seeing that artists themselves are too expensive to book, the majority of people would rather invite DJ’s.
“Hypeman and Djs, please adjust your rate cards. It’s time to cook and clean. Thank you to our wonderful Musicians for being so kind and too expensive to book. We will perform your songs on your behalf.”
