Governor Sheriff Oborevweri has deplored corrupt practices by civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Delta State.
He lamented that many of these organisations disguised themselves to hoodwink the people and government, instead of rendering better services.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Civil Societies and NGOs, Victor Ojei, at the weekend in Asaba, the governor said there are urgent moves to monitor their actions and inactions with a view to flushing out the bad eggs and partnering with the genuine ones.
He said a portal for CSOs and NGOs had been created for better operations, regretting that a lot of these organisations were defrauding the state
The governor warned: “We will not tolerate this kind of act in the state, hence we are putting structure on ground to publish NGOs, CSOs and community-based organisations (CBOs) that have been verified by the state.”
While assuring that the government would sanitise the system, Oborevwori urged all and sundry to back the crusade.
