The newly-elected Lagos Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Trade Union Side, Olusegun Balogun has pledged his commitment to improve workers’ interests.
He said this in his acceptance speech, where he was re-elected to lead the Lagos JNC for another two years.
Following the challenges of the high cost of living, hike in transportation, scarcity of food and other essential commodities, he urged members not to lose focus on the demand for the new minimum wage billed for next year.
He said since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the concurrent floating of the Naira by the current administration, fixed-income earners could no longer breathe in a depressed and choking economy.
According to him, the appalling situation has become so aggravated that “our “take-homes” can no longer take us home.
“I want to assure you, on behalf of my team, that we shall double up efforts to make sure that workers regain their pride of place in the scheme of things. We are prepared to confront these challenges with the last atom of our strength and we are confident that victory is surely ours. We must not disappoint the workers who are growing worried every day as to what the state government will do on the issue of wage award.”
Others elected are Ige-Jenyo Solomon as vice chairman, Toba Odumosu as secretary, Ojo Ebenezer as assistant secretary and Sanni Morayo as treasurer.
