Namadi sends N298.14b budget for 2024 to Jigawa Assembly

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly.

Presenting the budget at plenary on Tuesday, the governor stated that the budget had an estimated value of N298.14 billion, almost 23 per cent higher than that of the previous year.

According to him, the ‘Budget for a Greater Jigawa’ is in line with the principles of fiscal responsibility.

He said over N111 billion (about 37 per cent) was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while about N175.44 billion (59 per cent) was allocated to capital projects.

Namadi further explained that the proposed budget includes provisions for new government agencies to be established before the end of the first quarter of 2024. The agencies include the State Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy Agency, State Hisbah, Tsangaya, Resident Identity Management, and State Anti-corruption Agencies.

He urged lawmakers to give the appropriation bills in the state and local councils speedy passage for the overall interest of the people and state.

Receiving the budget document, the Speaker, Haruna Dangyatin, promised to give the budget a speedy passage.
