The newly deployed Rivers State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olatunji Disu, yesterday, charged officers to get the prime suspect of killers of late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Superintendent of Police (SP) Bako Angbashim, identified as David Gift a.k.a 2Baba and other criminals terrorising the area.
Disu spoke when he visited the troubled Ahoada East Local Council to familiarise with officers and men attached to the council.
The CP, who was accompanied by senior Police officers of the command, said: “I know how difficult it is for you people to enter those difficult areas. I want you to know that we are going to support you with all required logistics. I want you to know how important we take your job. My first assignment was to come and see you, to tell you how important you are.”
He also charged the officers to ensure they bring him success stories by arresting the culprits, stressing that nobody would kill a police officer and go scout-free.
Disu, however, advised the officers to keep safe to avoid injuries and fatality, just as he visited Odieremenyi community where five people were killed on Sunday, November 12.
The CP, in an interaction with the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Council, Ben Eke, assured that the command under his watch would do everything possible to bring everlasting peace to the area.
He pledged to ensure sustainable peace, while commending the council chairman for all he had been doing for the police in the area.
Responding, Eke promised to give the commissioner the necessary support to succeed.
Disu, who assumed office as 45th police Commissioner of Rivers, has served in various key positions across the nation, including officer in charge of Anti Fraud, State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Katsina; Aide de Camp to the former Governor of Lagos State; Training Officer at the NPF Peacekeeping Department, leading the contingent during the Darfur crisis; Divisional Police Officer in Owo and Ikare in Ondo State; head of Special Anti Robbery Squads in Oyo and Ondo States.
Notably, he previously served in Rivers State as Anti-Kidnapping Squad leader, Divisional Police Officer in Elimbu and Elelenwo, Commander of SARS, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID.
