Towards bequeathing a safer and healthy environment for travellers and commuters, the Ogun state government, yesterday, began the demolition of makeshift structures and shanties in Kara, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The enforcement, coordinated by the state task force demolished shanties and illegal structures along the highway. The exercise was carried out amid heavy presence of security agents such as policemen and operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps.

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Environment, Mr. Farouq Akintunde, who led the team pointed out that the exercise will give the area a facelift and reposition the state as the industrial hub of Nigeria.

According to him, no serious investor will come to the state to partner with the government in an atmosphere where there are shanties and garbage.

He lamented the abuse of the median of the newly constructed highway with human faeces and dirt by hawkers, destitute and others that carry out daily activities along the axis.
