Dr. Layi Fatona, Executive Vice Chairman of ND Western and advisory council board member at NAPE, highlighted the organization’s dedication to nurturing industry talent through robust funding opportunities and alumni networks. This commitment was underscored during his contribution to a panel discussion on ‘The Power of the Alumni in University Education in Nigeria’ at the recently concluded National Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE 2023).
In alignment with this commitment, CEO Eberechukwu Orji announced the introduction of the Shell Intensive Training Program (SITP) initiative during the Africa Night Dinner’s welcome address. Orji expressed the initiative’s role in fostering collaboration and outlined ND Western’s ambitious plans for 2024. The company aims to empower young professionals to achieve autonomy within a year through the SITP, a comprehensive program combining classroom instruction with practical experience.
Orji stated, “Our commitment to the future lies in empowering the next generation. SITP is more than a program; it’s a catalyst for change, a pathway to autonomy for young professionals within a year.”
Emphasizing the importance of capacity building, he called for partnerships to shape the industry’s future leaders both locally and globally. He urged a shift from the traditional business model of resource extraction to one that adds substantial value to the natural resources produced.
Addressing the global collaboration aspect, Orji revealed ND Western’s partnership with Robert Gordon University and other reputable institutions worldwide. He sees this as an opportunity for indigenous partners to drive value across the industry and foster the development of the next generation of geoscientists and petroleum engineers.
