• Task Tinubu on true federalism, resource control
• Accuse Buhari’s administration of vendetta against Igboho
The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has lamented the economic hardship in the nooks and crannies of the country, describing it as dehumanising.
Secretary-General of YCE, Oladipo Oyewole, in a communique made available to The Guardian, yesterday, said this was part of resolutions of the Yoruba elders at their last quarterly meeting for the year 2023 held at the group’s national secretariat in Ibadan.
The group, which expressed concerns over the situation of the country, reminded the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Bola Tinubu that enthusiasm for it at the polls was driven by the belief in the genius of its leading candidate to turn the country’s economic situation from adversity to prosperity.
The Yoruba elders, while appreciating and commending the Federal Government for the termination of litigation against Sunday Adeyemo (a.k.a. Sunday Igboho) in the court in Benin Republic, considered the case as meritless and an unwarranted sectional vendetta by the last administration, adding that by discontinuing with the case, the current administration has de-escalated unnecessary tension in the polity and has re-established the Federal Government as a responsible player in Nigeria’s ongoing Democratic and Republican experience rather than as a hegenonistic imperium.
It further urged the Federal Government to institute long-lasting reformulation of visible constitutional inadequacies to achieve true federalism and its attendant resource control implications.
This, according to it, will necessarily reduce sectional restiveness, and as well engender a sense of belonging among all segments of the society.
It, however, demanded equitable restoring of the polity without pandering to the pretence of hegemony.
