The newly inaugurated representative of Rivers State in the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Tony Okocha, has decried uncompleted projects under the commission in the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with staff of the commission at the state office of the NDDC in Olu-Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he promised to visit abandoned project sites to ascertain why they were stalled. He added that he would effectively push for project completion during his tenure.

Okocha lamented that NDDC over the years have not been able to achieve its purpose, which was the development of the Niger Delta. He also promised to hold town hall meetings with the people to enable him to have knowledge of the pressing needs and present them to the board.

“I will have the opportunity of visiting those sites so that I have first-hand information and knowledge of what they are, and the extent of work so that I will be able to present before the board,” he said.

Okocha, who doubles as the former Chief of Staff to Rivers State government, assured that his representation at the board would attract what is due to the state.

He called on staff of the commission to collaborate with him to attract the needed development to the state. He said: “I believe that there will be no me without you, I believe that in one accord and in synergy we will be able to develop Rivers NDDC to a reputable point that people expect to see. I have come to seek your cooperation, I have come to seek your understanding, I have come to humble myself before you.”

Earlier, the Project Director of the State NDDC board, Theophilus Alagoa, assured the new state representative of staff support and collaboration for development.
