Eno unveils Miva Open University Study Centre in Uyo

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has unveiled the Uyo Study Centre of Miva Open University, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and developing human capital in the state.

The study centre,Miva Open University is licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and operates as an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution, was officially unveiled recently.

Speaking at the event,Governor Eno, represented by  Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah commended the founder and management of Open University for choosing Akwa Ibom as its study centre, describing the initiative as a significant addition to the state’s growing educational sector.

Umanah also described Governor Eno as an education-friendly leader, adding that education remains a key priority of the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

He explained that the government will continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at improving access to education, strengthening human capital and equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

While assuring private educational institutions and other stakeholders of the state government’s continued support and partnership, he expressed optimism that the presence of Uyo study centre would create more opportunities for students and contribute to the state’s human capital development.

Earlier, the Chief Operating Officer of the  Study Centre, Aniekeme Umoh, stated that the institution was excited to deepen its relationship with the people of Akwa Ibom through the establishment of the Uyo Centre.

Umoh however commended the Governor’s ARISE Agenda, particularly its focus on education, human capital development, youth empowerment and shared prosperity, saying the priorities align with the university’s mission of providing accessible and relevant higher education.

She hinted that the Open University, which began operations with about 500 students, has grown to more than 34,000 students, saying,  they are committed to creating a new category of higher education that would respond to the realities of modern students and the demands of a rapidly changing world.

According to her, the Centre was established to provide students in Akwa Ibom with a conducive environment for learning, interaction with other students and access to opportunities within the university’s wider academic community.

Also, A 100-level Computer Science student of the university, Solomon Egheose,  commended the founder and management of Miva Open University for maintaining high standards in the administration of the institution.
