
Four men have been killed very close to a military checkpoint in Dode village, Mangu Hallei Ward of Mangu Local Council, Plateau State. A witness said the checkpoint was mounted by stern-looking armed soldiers, but could not tell exactly what led to the killing of the four men.
Military Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Capt. Oya James, said he would get the details and get back to The Guardian, but never did at press time.
Our source said the villagers just saw the dead persons when they were passing by yesterday, adding that nobody had the courage to ask the soldiers when and how the death happened.
However, an army officer who pleaded anonymity said he heard similar story, but had no details. Meanwhile, the Community Department of the Police Public Relations Office, yesterday, said 92-year-old Joseph Gwom, a retired Army Staff Sergeant, is missing.
The nonagenarian was last seen at Filin Atili, around Dogon Dutse. He resides behind Chwelnyap Primary School, Nasarawa Gwong, in Jos North Local Council. The retired Berom soldier without tribal marks walks with the support of crutches.
