
The Minister of Education, Prof.Tahir Mammam, has called on stakeholders, and industry leaders to complement government’s initiatives in solving challenges confronting the education sector.

The minister, represented by the Director, Legal Services, Mrs. Ezonebi Blessing Azorbo, made the call at the 35th convocation and 76th anniversary of Yaba College of Technology, (YABATECH), Lagos State.
Mammam said that government is aware of the various challenges confronting the education sector, which includes accessibility, equity, funding, teacher capacity building, institutional management, technical and vocational in education. He further said the issues are being actively addressed.
“It is imperative to emphasise that addressing these challenges require collaborative efforts.”
He, therefore, pleaded with stakeholders to help the government through contributions to research, structural development, scholarships for underprivileged students, capacity building, and graduate employment, saying the partnership will significantly augment the accomplishments facilitated by agencies like Tertiart Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), and international development partners.
He added that the role of science and technology education in national growth is recognised, saying as a primary driver, the polytechnic sub-sector occupies a central position in country’s quest for technological development.
“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting this sub-sector, emphasising a renewed focus on the 70-30 admission ratio favouring science and technology programmes simultaneously.”
He encouraged regular curriculum review to infuse indigenous technology through local content, fostering harmonious relationships with host communities.
Mamman congratulated the distinguished individuals conferred fellowship awards, inviting them to join hands with the government in furthering the development of the institution and leaving an indelible mark on the institution and the nation.
On his part, the college’ rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the minister of education for the opportunity to serve the college and the nation.
He appreciated the management, staff, students, alumni, community members, security agencies and all other stakeholders for their loyalty, commitment and steadfastness.
Fellowship awards were conferred on three outstanding Nigerians. They are Lady Christine Doja Otedola, Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
