The Taraba State Police Command said it has extended search for the killer of a teacher, Bassey Sarduana, to neighbouring states.

Spokesperson for the command, Usman Abdullahi, who said the command was still in pursuit of the culprits, revealed that the police have expanded search to neighbouring Gombe State.

Widow of the late Sarduana, Mercy, had raised questions over apparent lack of proof surrounding arrest of the individual responsible for fatally stabbing her husband on November 11, 2023.

The late Sarduana was a respected school teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Model, Jalingo. He was allegedly stabbed, while on his way home, sparking a public outcry and demand for justice by residents.

Despite rumors regarding the suspect’s apprehension, Mercy expressed doubt, saying: “I have not received any confirmation about the suspect yet. Since the day after the incident, when some policemen came here and said they would look into the case, none of them has come back to address the family. We haven’t heard anything about the case from anybody. We only heard rumours that the suspect had been arrested, but I don’t believe that he has been arrested.”

But the police assured the family, saying: “We are still working seriously to ensure that the prime suspect is arrested. We have extended our search to neighbouring states.”
