
• Nab two suspected kidnappers
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two persons accused of reckless driving.
The command said on December 3, 2023, a driver identified as Emmanuel Alfred rammed his truck into a commercial Toyota Hiace bus (registration number KWARA AFN 890 YNL) parked at a roadside, killing one Alfa Rafiu of Ile Ofearan, Kwara State, in the process. The deceased, who had been repairing his vehicle at the time, died on the spot. His corpse was, thereafter, deposited at Real Divine Touch Mortuary in Ibafo.
Spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, said the bus had been retrieved and was currently at a police station.
She said another fatal accident occurred at Warewa on December 2, 2023. According to her, one Tunde Poopola reported to the police that while driving along Ganu Road, towards 12th Avenue entrance, he witnessed another driver run over a child.
“When people around the area saw what happened, they shouted at the driver, who then stopped to see what happened. The driver and other people rushed the two-year-old child to Patti Robbo Clinic. They were later referred to Broadland Hospital in Magboro.”
She said the two-year-old was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, adding: “The driver has been detained. The child’s corpse has been released for burial.”
Odutola added that the police commissioner, Abiodun Mustapha Alamutu, warned drivers in the state to avoid recklessness and obey traffic rules, especially during Yuletide, noting that the police will not hesitate to prosecute any driver who causes death or injury to road users.
Also, operatives of the command arrested two suspected kidnappers who were believed to have attacked Ekla Farm in Atoyo and kidnapped three persons at about 17:00 hours, on December 2, 2023.
The suspects, Rago Yusuf and Daoji Mohammed, were armed with rifles. They also allegedly killed 20 poultry birds and destroyed eggs at the farm.
Following the arrest, a machete, N75, 000, a torch, and other items were recovered.
The command said after it received intelligence concerning the suspects, policemen and local hunters combed the area and arrested the duo.
