Abia govt decries deterioration of Igbo culture, values
Abia State government has decried deterioration of Igbo culture and values, assuring it would support any action aimed at cultural revival and spiritual renaissance.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, said this when a delegation of Ezumezu Ndigbo Royal Ordained Heritage (Ezumezu), led by Chika Ibeneme, paid him a courtesy visit.
He said the Governor Alex Otti-led administration is concerned about Igbo values and commended Ezumezu for articulating an Igbo renaissance agenda with spiritual and cultural dimensions.
Ibeneme told the commissioner that Ezumezu was in Abia on spiritual and cultural re-orientation tours to all Igbo states, to revitalise and re-establish Igbo culture.
She lamented that many Igbo, especially youths, have deviated from the Igbo spirit and engaged in anti-social activities.
She expressed the need for the Abia government and other states, groups and individuals to collaborate with Ezumezu to make Igbo rediscover their culture.
Ibeneme, who doubles as a former Works Commissioner in Anambra State, called for a new agenda anchored on positioning age groups born between 1970 and 1976 to become arrowhead of Igbo renaissance.
She added that the visit was also to renew essence of the honour conferred on the late Biafra leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, as Ezeigbo Gburugburu, which coronation brought about the planting of Igbo kingdoms at home and in the diaspora.
