
• Police in Kaduna rescue kidnapped housewife
Sixteen persons died while 27 others sustained injuries in a road crash on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, yesterday.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, said the incident occurred at Audu Jhangon village.
Sector Commander, Kabir Nadabo, explained that the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m., when a vehicle (DAF truck) with number plate KUJ 430XC, with overloaded goods, lost control and fell into a ditch.
He said: “Initial reports indicate the driver was at high speed, probably due to fatigue. The combined rescue teams of RS1.114 Zhipe Unit Command and RS1.16B Dutse Outpost conducted the rescue operations. The crash involved 65 people, where 27 were injured and 16 people were deceased.”
Nadabo disclosed that the injured persons were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
He said upon receiving news of the crash, he visited the scene to have first-hand information, as well as direct the rescue team on evacuation of the deceased to the morgue.
“I also directed the tow truck to remove part of the accidented trailer blocking the road. The road is free for movement, “Nadabo said.
MEANWHILE, Kaduna State Police Command said it rescued a kidnapped housewife in the early hours of yesterday.
Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, disclosed this in Kaduna.
Hassan said: “At around 1:00 a.m., our operatives received a call that a group of armed men invaded a residence in the Dogarawa area of Sabon Gari, Zaria local council. The kidnappers took a housewife, aged 37. On receiving the call, our team rushed to the scene and pursued the criminals. Due to our superior firepower, they abandoned the kidnapped victim, which led to her rescue.”
According to him, the victim has been reunited with her family unhurt.
Hassan noted that an investigation was ongoing, while efforts were also being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
