CITN charges fellows to uphold ethical conduct

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has called on its new fellows to project the institute positively through adherence to ethical conduct.

This, as it said that as fellows, the Council would be relying on their wealth of knowledge in developing the tax profession in Nigeria. President and Chairman of Council, CITN, Samuel Agbeluyi, said this at the institute’s fellowship conferment ceremony/dinner and awards in Lagos.

He said the need for increased knowledge was crucial whilst advising the government on critical fiscal policies as they affect taxation and the economy.
Given that taxation is a dynamic profession, the CITN chief urged the new fellows to consistently strive to stay up to date on trending taxation issues.

He reiterated that the council is not relenting in its efforts to enhance the value placed on the institute’s certification at various levels of government and the private sector. Agbeluyi said the institute recognises efforts by the current government to reform the taxation and fiscal landscape in Nigeria.

“As an institute, we are committed to ensuring that the reforms are not just aptly conceptualised but effectively put into practice for the greater good of our nation. We are currently strengthening collaborations with all stakeholders, governmental bodies and the private sector in this regard.

“However, we must do more by actively contributing our technical and professional expertise to the ongoing work of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms,” he said.

Chairman of the Membership and Professional Conduct Committee, Dr Titilayo Fowokan, said the ceremony was to celebrate the accomplishments of members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in their fields.

She added that their tireless efforts, countless hours of hard work and relentless pursuit of knowledge have led them to this distinguished fellowship status.

“This event marks a significant milestone in the careers of many dedicated individuals who have tirelessly pursued excellence in their respective fields in taxation practice and administration. The journey to fellowship is not just a testament to your professional competence but also a symbol of your unwavering commitment to continuous learning and growth,” she said.
