The Rivers Police Command has assured residents of the state of full security presence at every flash point in the state, just as it banned the usage of fireworks during the Yuletide season.

In a press release signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the state Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu, also prohibited covering plate numbers and discouraged the use of tinted glasses.

Disu noted that the security measures were taken due to the peculiar nature of the state as a hub for economic activities that would experience a significant influx of people during the Yuletide season.

He said the Command has deployed specialised units dedicated to combating kidnapping and robbery activities that would intensify their efforts through targeted operations and surveillance to pre-empt and neutralise any criminal activities.

The Kaduna State Police Command has also announced the deployment of scores of its operatives to stem the activities of bandits and other criminals during Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, yesterday, the police notified members of the public of the elaborate operational strategies mapped out to checkmate the activities of criminal elements during festivities.

According to him, “ the command has deployed conventional and Mobile Policemen as well as undercover operatives to monitor key/vulnerable points with a view to ensuring water tight security across the state before, during and after the yuletide period.”

Also, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Okoro Julius Alawari, yesterday said the Command has put measures in place in the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order during the celebrations.

Alawari said there would be increased security presence in the state to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the festivities.

He announced a ban on the trading and use of fireworks, knockouts, firecrackers and all other pyrotechnics within the state.

“This ban has become necessary, considering the potential of such fireworks to cause disturbances, anxiety, and fear among members of the public and create opportunities for criminal activities,” he noted.

A statement yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, said there would be a complete ban on the use of tricycles also known as ‘Keke Napep’ on the Monday, December 25, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024

“Furthermore, the CP also wants you to note that the ban on motorcycles also known as ‘Okada’ (Going) within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis is still in force.

“The CP urges the good and peace loving people of the state to be vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in fighting crime and criminality. To all traditional, religious rulers, parents and guardians, he advises you to monitor your followers, children, wards and discourage them from the use of fireworks during the festive season,” the statement added.
