The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Oyo State Government to investigate the abduction of 46 pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Council has called for public memoranda, giving Friday, August 14, 2026, as the deadline for submissions.

The Commission is, however, seeking relevant information on the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the pupils, students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities, as well as the security response before, during and after the attack.

MEANWHILE, the Department of State Services (DSS) has released and compensated a Katsina State-born artisan, Mustapha Marwana, after investigations cleared him of allegations linking him to terrorist activities.

The release of the carpenter was ordered by the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, after a review of his case.

The review was carried out by an investigation panel constituted by the agency.

According to a security source, the investigation established that he was not a member of any terrorist organisation and had no operational links with the Ansaru terrorist group.

The state government, in a statement yesterday, said the Commission was inviting individuals and organisations with useful information to come forward and assist it in establishing the facts surrounding the incident.

It said that submissions should contain the full name and contact details of the contributor, alongside any supporting documents considered relevant to the information being provided.

According to the state government, memoranda could be submitted physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan or through [email protected], urging members of the public with relevant information to ensure that their submissions reached the commission before the August 14 deadline.

According to a security source, the investigation established that he was not a member of any terrorist organisation and had no operational links with the Ansaru terrorist group.

Marwana was arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Council of Oyo State.

He was subsequently subjected to detailed investigation to determine the extent, if any, of his involvement in the activities under investigation.

The source said the investigation found no evidence linking the carpenter to the membership, financing, logistics or operational activities of the terrorist group.

The DSS, according to the source, not only ordered Marwana’s immediate release but also compensated him for the period he spent in custody after being cleared of the allegations.
