DW beats NDL as ASNDL Volleyball Tournament serves off

Hosts, Naval Dockyard Limited, began their
campaign at the maiden Admiral
Superintendent Naval Dockyard Limited
(ASNDL) Volleyball Championship on a
losing note, with Dodan Warriors beating
them 2-1 in the opening game.

The Admiral Superintendent Volleyball
Tournament is a three-day event featuring
Naval Dockyard Limited, Western Naval
Command, Naval Training Command and
Dodan Warriors.

The competition is being played on a
round-robin format with each team expected
to play all the participants, with the overall

winners claiming the trophy and prizes at
the close of the tournament.

The game kicked off on with both teams
conceding 1-1 apiece within the opening
seconds, with Dodan Warriors conceding
four times within four minutes of the
encounter. It ended 16-16 at the break, but
Dodan Warriors won the first set 25-23.

The game went on break with Naval
Dockyard leading 14 to six points. They
eventually won the set 25 to 12.

However, Dodan Warriors bounced back to
take the decisive set 18 to 16 to take the
game by two games to one. In the second
game, Western Naval Command defeated
Naval Training Command by 2-0.

Speaking on the competition, Admiral
Superintendent, MD/CEO, Naval Dockyard
Limited, Lagos, Rear Admiral Abolaji
Orederu, disclosed that it would now
become part of the yearly end-of-year
activities of the firm.

Orederu added that the tournament aims to
strengthen the bonds between the personnel
of the Yard and their counterparts in the
agencies, building trust and healthy
competition while unwinding the stress of
the year.

“Pertinently, the Naval Dockyard Limited
organised this volleyball tournament to
create further avenues to increased synergy
among personnel and civilian partners of the Yard. It is believed that with will promote the growth of collaboration between the Yard and other institutions with shared
responsibilities, interests and goals within the Navy, Armed Forces of Nigeria and the general public.

“I believe that, with the level of preparation and fighting spirit of the Team from the Naval Dockyard, they are likely temerge victorious at the end of the event.”

On his part, Flag Officer Commanding
(FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC),
Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan, said:

“The Navy has its core function which is
operation and administration so, sports will help the teamwork. Sports help to bring us
together for better efficiency.

“I am impressed with this tournament; the
Dockyard is known for engineering work
but this time, we are witnessing sport. The
leader of the Dockyard, Rear Admiral
Orederu is a dynamic leader so, I’m not
surprised about this, it could be Motor
Racing tomorrow. The Nigerian Navy is
trying to excel in everything and we will
continue to do more.
