The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has called for extra efforts from the Federal Government and security agencies to arrest the growing menace of insecurity in Nigeria.

Obi made this call on Friday following the attack, which saw two policemen shot dead by suspected assailants at Uga roundabout in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday.

Obi, reacting, said the disturbing reports of the tragic violent attack that claimed the lives of two policemen attached to Chris Ubah are very sad one.

“The government and all security agencies, who are at the forefront of combating insecurity, need to make extra efforts to arrest this growing menace of insecurity in our society,” he said.

“I also learned that some yet-to-be-identified people were also kidnapped by the criminals. I also received reports that gunmen went on a rampage in the Amesi Community in the same Aguata LGA and killed a vigilante identified as Chigbo Onuegbu (Akawo) and kidnapped another.

“It is sad that our society has degenerated to this level where violence has become a ready mode of expression.

“I sincerely condole with the bereaved families of the policemen and the vigilante who lost their lives in the attack and I sympathise with my brother, Chris Uba, over this sad incident.”

Obi said this recourse must not only be condemned but also combated by the authorities, while every act of terror and violence must be condemned.

According to the former Anambra state governor, Nigerians in general must not allow society to lose the sense of sacredness of life.

He added that he is sure the country will win this war against insecurity and everyone will not rest until every Nigerian life is secure.
