Davido’s ‘Unavailable’ and Burna Boy’s ‘City Boy’ Go Silver in UK
The UK is proving fertile ground for Afrobeats superstars Davido and Burna Boy, with both achieving silver certifications for their hit singles on opposite sides of the River Thames.
Davido’s infectious tune “Unavailable,” featuring South African producer Musa Keys, has garnered a silver BPI Award after surpassing 200,000 units in sales. This comes as no surprise, considering the song’s phenomenal run in the UK, peaking at #52 on the UK Singles Chart and claiming the top spot on the UK Afrobeats Chart. The success further underlines the impact of Davido’s fourth album, “Timeless,” which shattered African streaming records upon its release.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy continues his UK reign with his swaggering anthem “City Boy.” The single, also a silver-certified smash, has amassed over 200,000 units in sales. Released as a lead single for Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated seventh album, “I Told Them,” “City Boy” captivated audiences with its catchy lyrics, infectious melody, and a dance challenge that took the internet by storm. The song peaked at #14 on the UK Singles Chart and, like Davido’s offering, reigned supreme on the UK Afrobeats Chart.
