With the emerging challenges in data protection and privacy, the need to foster a culture of compliance among businesses and organisations in the digital age has been raised.

Stakeholders argued that by doing so, businesses not only protect the rights of individuals but also mitigate the risks associated with data breaches, thereby fostering trust and loyalty among their clientele.

Head of Data Protection Compliance Services, DataPro Limited, Ademikun Adeseyoju, said this during this year’s celebration of Privacy Day, marked every Jan 28, with the theme ‘Reshaping Tomorrow’s Privacy Landscape’ as declared by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

She said as Nigeria continues its journey towards a digitally-driven future, DataPro, as a leading data protection compliance organisation, reflects on the achievements in the growth of data protection and privacy in Nigeria, highlighting the need for heightened privacy consciousness and outlining an agenda for the implementation of privacy considerations in the nation’s digital economy.

She said in an era defined by the rapid digitisation of services and the increasing interconnectedness of individuals and organisations, the role of data protection has become even more pronounced.

She said Nigeria has witnessed significant strides and growth in the realm of data protection, commending the efforts of the NDPC and its affiliates, which have been instrumental in shaping and enforcing data protection laws, and fostering a culture of compliance among businesses and organisations.

Adeseyoju reaffirmed her company’s dedication to promoting a privacy-conscious environment, empowering organisations with state-of-the-art compliance solutions and fostering a collective commitment to safeguarding personal information in the digital age.
According to her, Privacy Day is recommended that organisations also embrace a proactive approach to privacy, integrating privacy by design into their business strategies and operations.

Adeseyoju outlined an agenda for the implementation of a heightened privacy landscape to include transparency and accountability; security and ethical data use; education and awareness, as well as collaboration with stakeholders.

She reiterated the firm’s readiness to collaborate with government bodies, businesses and not-for-profit organisations to collectively address emerging challenges in data protection and privacy.
