Peter Obi offers condolences, hope after tragic deaths of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, Folashade Ariyo

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has brought a message of solace and solidarity to families struck by tragedy in Nigeria. In a series of tweets, Obi recounted his recent visits to the families of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, a victim of violent kidnapping, and Folashade Ariyo, a teenager tragically lost.

His words resonated with a profound understanding of the pain and fear gripping Nigeria due to escalating violence. He acknowledged the “heartbreaking” impact on countless families and reiterated the urgent need for collective action.

However, even amidst the darkness, Obi emphasized a glimmer of hope. He urged citizens to reject paralysis and instead rise in a unified front against insecurity. This call for unity extends beyond mere words, with Obi highlighting the responsibility of leaders to take decisive steps towards a safer future.

He wrote: “Today, I witnessed yet another heartbreaking moment as I paid a condolence visit to the grieving family of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, brutally murdered by her abductors in the Nation’s capital, Abuja recently. At the same time, I remembered the family of the late Folashade Ariyo.

“Unfortunate challenges like these raging violence in our society bring out the strength and resilience that lies within us. It is heartbreaking to witness the pain and suffering of different families caused by the senseless acts of violence that have plagued our nation.

“However, amid this darkness, there is hope. Hope that together, as a nation, we can put an end to this horrifying and deadly insecurity. We must come together, united in our resolve to protect the lives and well-being of every Nigerian.

“To our citizenry, I implore us that we should not allow fear to paralyze us. Instead, let’s stand up against this ugly wave of insecurity. May we support one another, lend a helping hand to those in need, and work towards creating a safer and more secure future for all.

“May the memories of Nabeeha and all those who have lost their lives to such violent attacks inspire us, especially we the leaders, to take more decisive action against this ugly monster of insecurity. May we honour their memory by working tirelessly to ensure that no more life is lost.

“I greet the afflicted and the bereaved with deepest condolences and sense of solidarity. A nation that grieves together in moments of tragedy will surely rejoice together when we triumph over our current travails. -PO”

Obi’s message underscores the strength and resilience found within communities during moments of shared grief. This solidarity, he believes, can serve as a potent force for change, paving the way for a nation where lives are cherished and protected.
