Suspected kidnappers who abducted nine travellers in Oshokoshoko, along Kabba/Obajana/Lokoja Road in Kogi State, have demanded N2.6 million for their release.

The Guardian learnt that the victims were abducted on Saturday, at about 5:00 p.m., while travelling from Kabba to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The abducted include: the driver of the bus, two students, and six others.

Their abduction came barely two weeks after some Abuja-bound travellers were kidnapped in the state, on their way from the eastern part of the country.

A physically challenged person, Elupo Eliezer, whose wife was among the victims, said the kidnappers called and demanded N30 million ransom but later reduced it to N2.6 million after negotiations.

He said: “My wife and I were travelling to attend our church convention, scheduled for Lokoja. But I decided to follow a different vehicle as the Toyota car could not contain all of us, else I would have been in the car with her.”

He said the vehicle his wife boarded was ahead of theirs. He said all occupants of the vehicle had been marched into the bush by the time his own vehicle arrived at the spot.

When contacted, spokesperson for Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, said he was not aware of the incident.

He promised to get back to the reporter but was yet to do so at press time.
