Former member of the House of Representatives for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Constituency in Abia state for four consecutive terms/tenure, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha concluded the 19th/ 2026 edition of her annual free medical and surgical outreach for her Constituents.

The outreach was held in three centers namely; Isuikwuato LGA General Hospital from 22 to 25th July, Madam Suzana MBA Health Center Isuochi from 26 – 30th , and within the Lokpanta Cattle market both in Umunneochi Council.

I,000 persons were planned to be attended to during this period in the three Centers by a team of medical personnel in various areas led by Dr. Humble Evuchuaiwe.

One of the patients attended to at Isuochi was a female child that could not discharge faeces from the anus, with the cost of correcting it through surgery was put at between ₦3 million and ₦5 million. This cost was beyond the affordability of the young mother.

Like other cases that could not be handled at the three centers during the period, Hon Onyejeocha directed for their referral to the appropriate hospital at her expense.

At the Normadic school at the Cattle market , the northern community queued with their children, hailing Hon Onyejeocha, who resigned her appointment as Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, contested for and won the APC primary to contest in the 2027 election to return to the House of Representatives for a 5th term.

She had before her first election into the National Assembly declared that if elected, she would introduce and sustain this outreach and ensure that poverty should never condemn any sick child to death. The former Minister, told journalists that the said child’s health condition was among several other heartbreaking cases that moved her to personally fund treatment for patients whose ailments cannot be handled during the outreach.

She asked “If this outreach doesn’t help this child, who will? The young mother who cannot even afford ₦50,000, was told to produce between ₦3 million and ₦5 million for surgery. I have therefore instructed the medical team to attend to patients whose conditions cannot be managed to do so in an appropriate hospital and send the bills to me.” According to Hon Onyejeocha, the baby’s case symbolises the silent health crisis confronting many poor families who cannot afford hospital bills.

“I started this outreach before politics. It is a family tradition. I grew up watching my grandmother who spent her life caring for the sick and helping poor families, and I cannot stop it now even as I started the outreach before politics as a family tradition.”

Agreeing that governments strive to attend to the health of the citizens cannot be enough soon, she described this burden as enormous, stressing that this scenario has therefore called for private humanitarian interventions and collaboration.

“For me, every life matters. If God gives me the strength and the resources, I will continue and ensure that people do not die simply because they are poor,” she posited.

Reacting to the outreach at the Cattle market, the Northern community through Ali Ibrahim Kanima and Mohammed Tukur Usman, the Secretary and Chief Imam, in turn appreciated Onyejeocha, describing her kindness as part of the dividends of democracy they were and are getting in Abia state, most especially, the restoration of security in the area as “we now conduct our businesses without fear”.

The Medical Team led by Dr. Humble Evuchaiwe, reported that the Outreach featured successful Surgeries including Eye, and Hernia, ailments associated with age, poor feeding and dieting, failure to seek Medicare at the appropriately, inadequate rest, economic downturn,among others, attributing the many Hernia cases to people doing strenuous jobs including farming, adding that Hernia can re-occur from time to time

It was explained that Hernia is not limited to adults hence it extends to non adults.

On the sidelines, Hon Onyejeocha’s supporters admirers, well wishers , and APC members were on ground including the former Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA, Hon Chima Agbaeze, who is the APC candidate for the Isuikwuato Constituency position in the Abia state House of Assembly in the 2027 election.
