Available Resources: Edo people have no business with poverty, says Iseghohi

The Labour Party aspirant for the September Governorship election in Edo State, Tom Iseghohi, has promised to bring massive investments to the state if elected governor.

Iseghohi stated that with the abundant human and natural resources available in Edo State, citizens have no business being poor.

He spoke shortly after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja.

He said: “In Edo State, we have several issues we should not be having. Today, we have a huge problem with security, we have an economic problem, we have a problem with the rule of law.

“Edo State has five million people; we have more resources than Singapore, yet our per capital income is $2000 while in Singapore, it is $74,000. I am going to make Edo State a logistics hub to create tremendous employment.

“Within three years, Edo will be economically transformed and the people of the state will have income as jobs would be created; there will also be safety and security “In addition to that, those that left the state will come back home.”

Iseghohi stated that in order to transform the state, one needs a lot of investments and bringing massive investments requires global contact.

He also promised Edo people that in his first year in office as a governor, he will ensure that at least, one ward in each of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state enjoys uninterrupted power supply.

On the issue of zoning, Iseghhi said he doesn’t believe in such, stressing that it doesn’t not allow the best candidate to be voted into office.

“However, we have three Senatorial districts in the state. We have Edo North, Edo Central and Edo South and 25 years ago, a deal was struck between the Senatorial districts that each zone will take its turn to give the state a contract.

“You cannot terminate a contract in the middle of its execution when two out of three zones have benefited from the contract.

“I believe the contract should be completed by having someone from Edo Central become the governor.

“After that, we should open it so that the best person should be the governor. Let me say this, let us assume that there is no zoning and Edo people are serious about producing a governor that will give them a better life and a future. I believe I will still emerge as the best candidate for the office of the governor. And I am from Edo Central, why not elect me and at the same time, satisfy the terms of the contract? He asked.
