The African Music Library, in conjunction with notable historian and lawyer, Nze Ed Emeka Keazor, will, tomorrow, host the official Lagos premiere of their film, Ki’mon!: The Eastern Nigerian Afro-Funk Revolution 1970-1980.
Set to hold at Alliance Francaise, Ikoyi, the premiere sequels the film’s prior screenings in Enugu and London. This event will be hosted in partnership with Josplay Music, Piql Africa, Nigerian Funk, and Sample Chief.
This film is directed by Ed Keazor, produced by him and veteran Afro-Funk drummer Eddie Offeyi, and executive produced by Muni King-Keazor, Obi Asika, and Ed Keazor.
“Ki’mon! exists to foster a deep understanding of the Eastern Afro-Funk movement through stories from the very legends who pioneered it, as well as the radio presenters, historians, music critics, and more who chronicled the movement,” the organisers said.
“In an era where the contributions of our past music heroes are largely under-appreciated and under-documented, Ki’mon not only narrates history but also celebrates the contributions of key players in Eastern Nigeria’s Afro-Funk scene, and further illuminates the complex cultural realities of a post-Biafra Nigeria.”
In addition to a screening of the film, this premiere will include a film talkback with the producer and a cohort of music industry legends, and a performance from the Lagos Afro-Funk Collective. The individuals that will take part in the talkback are Jahman Anikulapo; Benson Idonije; Uchenna Ikonne; Nze Ed Emeka Keazor; Obi Asika; Chinyeaka Okoli; Jacob Akinyemi-Johnson; and Odion Iruoje.
