The Edo State government has demolished security posts around impeached former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu’s house.

It was gathered that a bulldozer had come to demolish the security canopy opposite Shaibu’s residence along Aideyan Street, G.R.A, Benin, the Edo State at about 5: 00 pm on Sunday.

Commissioner for communication and orientation in Edo State, Chris Nehikhare, said the security post was not part of Shaibu’s residence.

Nehikhare said the Edo State government had given Shaibu the privilege to enjoy extra security presence around his house before now.

He, however, said that has since been withdrawn following his impeachment from office.

He added that the state government had recently embarked on a series of demolition exercises, to remove all illegal structures without government approval.

Shaibu was impeached as deputy governor by Edo State House of Assembly in early April during a plenary session after months of strained relationship between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

His impeachment followed the adoption of the report of a seven-man committee set up by the chief judge of Edo State Justice Daniel Okungbowa to investigate allegations of misconduct against the former deputy governor.

Obaseki thereafter name Omobayo Marvellous Godwins who is from Akoko-Edo, in the Edo North Senatorial District of the State as deputy governor to replace Shaibu.
