Imo commissioner tasks 3MTT hackathon winners on hunger, insecurity

Imo State Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr Chimezie Amadi, has charged winners of the maiden Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) hackathon to create Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions to help fix challenges of security and food security in the country.

 
The first hackathon, held at the 3R Digital Training Centre, Imo Digital Economy and E-Government headquarters, was in conjunction with the Imo State Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government (MDEEG).
 
In a chat with The Guardian, yesterday, the commissioner encouraged them to work together, highlighting the importance of leveraging digital communities for maximum growth of society.
 
Amadi challenged them to develop innovations to help manufacturers produce better, and educators to teach more effectively to rapidly transform the South East region.
 
3MTT is a critical part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to help build the Nigerian technical talent backbone and position the country as a net talent exporter by training and empowering three million youths with digital skills.

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy had struck a partnership with Imo MDEEG to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

 
With the graduates of Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 of SkillUpImo project and Abia Tech Community as participants, the two-day event comprised six teams of three each from Abia Imo.
 
To unlock and sharpen their digital ingenuity, participants were asked to share ideas relating to any of the following TechForGood themes: Improving Healthcare Access and Efficiency, Enhancing Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability, Ensuring Clean Water and Effective Sanitation, Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women, Environmental Conservation and Responsible Consumption, Enhancing Community Safety and Preventing Crime, Strengthening Emergency Response and Disaster Management, as well as Protecting Human Rights and Promoting Justice.
  
After a rigorous competition, CommSec (Abia) came third and won the N100,000 cash prize, 9ja Chef (Imo) came second place and went home with N300,000 cash, while Farmaz Thrive (Imo) came tops and bagged the star prize of N600,000 cash.
 
Special guest of honour, Prof. Maurice Iwu, advised the participants to seize the opportunity to secure their financial freedom and help the country’s economy.Other prizes won at the event included 100GB MTN data subscriptions, electronic note-taking devices and LinkedIn scholarship.
