… say Ogun won’t be another colony of Lagos Politics

As elections draws nearer, opposition parties under Coalition of Registered Political Parties in Ogun State, comprising of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the Labour Party (LP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have formed a coalition to take over the reins of power from the All Progressive Congress come 2027 elections in the state.

 

The Chairman of the CRPP, Comrade Sunday Oginni said that the coalition was formed to rescue the residents of Ogun State from the shackles of APC and reshape Ogun State’s political landscape by offering a credible alternative to the ruling establishment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

Oginni disclosed this, while addressing newsmen yesterday during the unveiling of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM)’s deputy governorship, senatorial and House of Assembly candidates in Abeokuta.

 

He explained that the coalition was formed to challenge those who believe that APC is the only political option in the state and destabilize its long-standing dominance in the three tiers of government in the state for close to two decades.

 

“Ogun State is yearning for a new dawn. That is why political parties are coming together to give the people the leadership they deserve. It is unacceptable for individuals to occupy the same political positions in the same local government, constituency or ward for nearly two decades.” the chairman said.

 

He urged all opposition parties dedicated to offering what he described as a credible alternative to voters to unite under the coalition and put an end to the perception that APC is the only political choice available to the people of the state.

 

” There is no room for the political colonisation of Ogun State. Together, we will challenge those who believe they are the only political option and ensure that the state is rescued,” Oginni said.

 

He further appealed to the residents of the state to reject any form of financial incentives or vote selling in the forthcoming, emphasizing that voters should place greater value on candidates’ competence and integrity than on monetary inducements.

 

“My message to the people of Ogun State is to remain vigilant. Do not allow those with deep pockets who seek to buy your future and that of your children to determine the destiny of the state. Those who believe money can solve everything should not be rewarded with political power,” he said.

 

Oginni maintained that the coalition was established to bridge what he described as the leadership gap in the state by offering voters a credible platform capable of delivering good governance.

 

“We are bridging the gap by providing the people of Ogun State with a credible, reliable and respectable alternative for the 2027 elections. The coalition of political parties represents that alternative,” he added.

 

The NNPP National Secretary also cautioned against what he described as efforts by outside political forces to exert control over Ogun State’s political landscape, stressing that the coalition remains resolute in preventing the state from becoming another colony of Lagos State politics.

 

“We are determined to ensure that Ogun State does not become another colony of any Lagos Politics. If anyone believes that after spending decades elsewhere, they can come and dominate Ogun State politically, that is not acceptable,” Oginni stated.

 

He expressed confidence that the coalition would strengthen opposition politics in Ogun State and provide voters with a viable choice in the 2027 governorship election.
