Ebuka Obi-Uchendu: The Multifaceted Host Of Big Brother Naija
Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu, the captivating host of the ongoing Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) season 9, has become a household name in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. With his charismatic presence and intelligent interviewing skills, Ebuka has made a name for himself as the face of one of Africa’s most-watched reality television (TV) shows.
Upbringing and education
Born as the third of four children in Benin City, Edo State, Ebuka’s journey to fame began with a solid foundation. He has always been a bright student. This is evident in his passing the common entrance examination in just primary four.
Following that, he did his secondary schooling at Christ The King College, Abuja. He went on to enroll in the University of Abuja, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in law. And then, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where he was called to bar.
Furthermore, he obtained his master’s of law degree with a specialisation in Intellectual Property and Communications Law at the Washington College of Law. Big brains indeed!
From housemate to host
Ebuka’s connection to the BBNaija franchise dates back to 2006. He was a contestant in the show’s first Nigerian season. Although he finished in eighth place out of 14 housemates, this reality TV experience laid the foundation for his future success as the show’s host.
Transition to television
After his stint on BBNaija, Ebuka’s passion for television hosting blossomed. He began his career as a host on the Friend or Foe show, and Guinness Greatness TV. The shows were hosted by Globacom and Guinness respectively. In addition, he began publishing articles on Contrast and ThisDay. As well as What’s New and Ace Magazines.
Interestingly, he hosted the first-ever presidential debate with a focus on youth issues. This was during the electoral campaign of the 2011 general elections in Nigeria.
Ebuka went on to host numerous television shows including Rubbin’ Minds and The Spot in 2013 and Men’s Corner. His exceptional talent and engaging personality swiftly made him a household name.
Big brother naija host
In 2017, Ebuka was announced as the host of the second season of Big Brother Naija, titled Big Brother Naija: See Gobbe. Since then, he has been the face of the show, guiding viewers through the drama, emotions, and twists of each season.
However, there was a moment in 2021 where fans were calling for Ebuka to step down as the show’s host and be replaced by Frank Edoho. Frank Edoho is a Nigerian television host of the popular Who Wants To Be A Millionaire show. Fortunately, Ebuka was not overthrown.
Ebuka’s style
Ebuka’s sense of style has become an integral part of his public persona. He is known for his impeccable fashion choices. Furthermore, he often graces the BBNaija stage in tailored suits, exquisite Agbada, and other traditional Nigerian attires. His style has earned him a reputation as a style icon, inspiring both his fans and media personalities.
