There was tension in Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday, as unknown gunmen reportedly abducted the former Commissioner for Technical Education, Mrs. Oyeamachi Mrakpor, killing her police orderly and driver.
The Guardian learnt that Mrs. Mrakpor, a one-time member of the House of Representatives, was kidnapped at around 4:30 pm with her children inside a church along Ogajefo Road, off DBS Road, Asaba, the state capital.
According to sources, the suspected kidnappers killed the police officer and her driver when they attempted to block them from accessing the former commissioner, who was said to have gone into hiding when the hoodlums gained access to the church.
It was also learnt that the kidnappers whisked away their victims to an unknown destination while shooting sporadically into the air to scare people from stopping them in carrying out their operations.
The kidnapped victim was the former Director General of the Delta State House of Assembly, Asaba Development Territory Agency, and immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said the police are currently trailing the kidnappers and will soon nab them.
