NDA exposes cadets to modern technology to tackle security threats – Commandant

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) says it has exposed its cadets to modern technological warfare to contain the emerging security threats in the country.

Maj.-Gen. John Ochai, Commandant of NDA, disclosed this at closing of Exercise Camp Highland for army cadets of the 71 Regular course and Direct short service course 28, on Friday in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise held at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Shere Hills, Jos between July 29 and Aug. 2.

Represented by Brig.-Gen. Olurotimi Awolo, the Director, Military Training of NDA, Ochai said that the camp highland exercise aimed at instilling leadership skills on the cadets.

”The cadets have been exposed to military leadership training in NDA, they are here to further broaden their leadership skills and trainings they already acquired.

”We are doing all of these to ensure that the cadets meet the required standard to serve in the Armed Forces.

”They have been exposed to counter terrorism trainings and some specialized trainings including amphibious, air born, among others.

”The NDA commandant is very particular about this because we know that the security threats are evolving and so these cadets have been prepared for contemporary and emerging security threats.

”We have also introduced them to the use of technology like drones and other modern gadgets that will make them more efficient in the field,” he said.

The commandant, who said that the cadets had undergone various exercise at Shere Hills, ranging from watermanship, rock climbing, parachuting and lectures on various leadership skills.

”This exercise is a precursor to the final and tactical phase of their training which will improve their leadership skills in the area of civil-military relation when they are commissioned,”he said.

NAN reports that a total of 418 cadets participated in the camp highland exercise.
