Lagos govt implored to fix bad spots on Agege motor road

Motorists and commuters have called on Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to rehabilitate the ‘Ile Zik’ section of the Agege Motor Road that is inflicting pains on residents.

They noted that aside damage on commercial vehicles from potholes, navigating through the bad portions of the road to connect Agege has become a challenge, as criminals operate from those dark spots, especially, at night.

It was observed that vehicles are not only always compelled to slow down, but also move at snail speed to avoid their vehicles getting damaged in the course of traversing the damaged portion of the uneven road.

As a result, at late night, criminal minded individuals usually loiter around the area to rob motorists and commuters.

Of note is that, road repairs were done around the corridor but they were not extended to that spot.

A driver, Francis Okefa, described the spot as very dangerous.”Anyone who is familiar with that axis and the spot would know the unpalatable effect of abandoning that bad spot without fixing it.

“The environment is known to be the habitation of hoodlums. One of the major responsibilities of the government is to provide security for its citizens and put in place every apparatus to ward off any danger.”

He, therefore, pleaded with the state government to fix the bad spot.

A nurse, Sola Idowu, condemned the attitude of the government in leaving the spot unattended to for a long while.

“Abandoning or refusing to fix the bad portion of the road for so long is just uncalled for, more importantly, as the consequence of such neglect could be very grave on the residents.
“This is the reason we are calling on government to quickly come and do something about the spot with a view to blocking the activities of evil- minded people hiding in the area looking forprey,” she said.

A teacher, Sola Oyeneye, expressed worry over the delayed rehabilitation of the road.

“One could imagine a vehicle breaking down at that spot between 11.00 pm and 12.00am and what would become of the people in the vehicle. The government should not wait for an avoidable incident to occur before doing the right thing.”

When the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, was contacted, he promised to alert the Ministry of Works about the state of the road for repairs.
