Protesters regroup in Kaduna, wave Russian flag, call for Putin’s intervention
Protests in Kaduna have taken a new dimension as thousands of demonstrators regrouped on Monday, marching on major streets and waving Russian flags.
The protesters are calling for the intervention of President Vladimir Putin, adding an international dimension to their local grievances.
The protesters, who had initially paused their activities over the weekend, resumed on Monday with renewed determination.
The protesters, mainly youths and underage children, were seen regrouping around the city centre, waving the Russian flag.
From various flashpoint areas within the state metropolis, they mobilised and converged at the central market before moving towards the Kawo axis. Security forces intervened at the NEPA roundabout, dispersing the crowds to prevent further escalation.
The protesters were chanting ‘bama so,’ meaning “we don’t want.”
One of the protesters said they had to come out again because President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his Sunday morning address, did not announce the return of the fuel subsidy.
They were, however, dispersed by the security operatives as the protesters were attempting to occupy the popular NEPA Roundabout and block Ahmadu Bello Way.
